  • Touch Starvation Research

We are helping people find the
touch they crave with research into how
we forms bonds with touch to stay healthy in our
    selves and our relationships.

Positive Touch & Sexuality

Human beings need touch. There are dire consequences without it. How does this affect sexuality? PPI is dedicated to understanding the importance of all types of touch.

Key Figures

Touch starvation hurts everyone

No access to positive touch is linked to higher anxiety and greater loneliness.

54% of us are touch deprived

Touch is a fundamental aspect of human connection and well-being. From a reassuring hug to a comforting pat on the back, positive touch plays a crucial role in our emotional and physical health. However, in a world where physical contact can sometimes be misinterpreted or restricted, it is essential to advance the science and practice of positive touch. Investing in research and initiatives that promote positive touch can enhance individual well-being, improve interpersonal relationships, and contribute to a healthier society.

Impact of Touch Starvation

Touch in Porn

What kind of touch do we find in popular pornography?

Many people learn to “do sex” from watching porn. We wanted to find out which models we are receiving from popular pornography today. Analyzing 80 of the most popular videos in porn we found:

  1. Women’s most sensitive sexual organ (the clitoris) is barely touched. With men’s organ (the penis) touched 10 times more.
  2. The rest of men’s erogenous zones are ignored, with men being touched almost exclusively on the penis.

Affection v. Sex

Are some people being deprived of affection, because of desire differences?

One of the main complaints of couples in sex therapy is desire differences. We want to separate ‘affection’ and ‘sexual desire’ as a way for couples to not become touch starved because they are navigating sexual desire differences. We’ve developed assessments and tools to help individuals and therapists to gain confidence to differentiate between precious touch and sexual desire.
