Pleasure-Positive Research Projects

Women’s pleasure is poorly understood. Women still experience a fraction of the pleasure in sex that men do, when they orgasm easily on their own or with other women. For women to be equal in their relationships we need to understand and promote women’s pleasure in sex, not only function.
More is being demanded of men, emotionally and relationally. Many men are in pain, lonely and confused.
There is a ‘lack of positive, non-threatening models of male sexuality through which men might imagine more gender-equal forms of sexual pleasure.’ We need to understand and support men to experience more connection and pleasure.
We are losing physical closeness in our world. The consequences of less touch are dire. We need to understand and have healthy touch in our world, for personal health, pleasure and connection.
The effectiveness of sex therapies has been understudied, especially those that focus on pleasure and connection in favor of sexual function. We need to provide the tools for more pleasure and evidence-based sex therapy treatments.
Some areas of sex research are influenced by cultural biases and judgments that influence the quality of sex research. The following areas have been identified as ways sex research is needed to change to make it “pleasure positive”. PPI is committing to uphold these standards throughout all research.
