StorySlam Speaker Guidelines
We want to hear what you have to say! Your story of sex. The explosively good or the saggingly bad. Sex can be funny, smelly and awkward, or joyously passionate. It can be a little scary and disappointing or intensely safe and connecting, and everything in between. We want to hear whatever version you want to share.
Here are a few guidelines to help you have some structure:
-
- Original Stories: We want to hear about your own experiences. Something that is personal to you. No readings from written materials.
- Time Limit: We are slotting time for each speaker to be about 5 to 7 minutes long. We will give you a signal at one minute left.
- Theme: This time our theme is “Sexual Journeys.” Any story that feels vulnerable and real. Express your inner sexual self. Say anything you might not be able to say in ‘polite society’.
- (dis)Respectful Content: This is the place you can use all of the words you cannot necessarily use in regular life. Feel free to express yourself in whatever words you like. This is a safe space. The audience will be all adults, and all women. Let your freak fly!
- Personal Experience: Focus on personal experiences and storytelling rather than general anecdotes or secondhand stories.
- No Hate Speech: Stories that promote hate or discrimination against individuals or groups will not be tolerated.
- Audience Participation: Be prepared for audience reactions, but keep your focus on delivering your story.
